Performance management begins by making processes and data collection more reliable (see Operational efficiency), then by designing operational and strategic indicators that enable all the organization’s stakeholders to quickly understand the status and trends at a given moment, and to make the right decisions for the future.

The development of steering indicators must reflect the company’s strategy. Indicators must also be defined at operational level, so that they can be shared by all.

In addition, the implementation of the new European CSRD directive in 2023, following on from the DEPF, calls for indicators that need to be added to the company’s strategic management. These new regulations call for a new process of data collection and dashboard development on the part of the finance department.
